280 kW Hard-Rock Cutting System

The EBZ280M-2 uses a 280 kW cutting motor and a low-speed cutterhead operating at 37 r/min. This combination is designed to provide the torque required for cutting full-rock and mixed coal-rock roadways.

The cantilever cutting boom allows the operator to excavate rectangular, arched and customized roadway profiles within the positioning cutting envelope. Its maximum cutting height reaches 5.2 m, while the maximum cutting area reaches 33.8 m².

The cutting head is equipped with 48 reinforced tooth holders. Anti-detachment structures help retain the cutting tools during vibration and high-impact excavation. The cutterhead connection uses a central high-strength bolt supported by side-positioning pins to improve connection stability.

The reinforced cutter boom is designed to withstand axial loads, eccentric loads and vibration generated during hard-rock cutting. Double-layer sealing helps protect key bearing areas against dust ingress and hydraulic-oil leakage.

The stated 100 MPa compressive-strength limit should not be used as the only machine-selection criterion. Actual cutting performance and pick consumption are also affected by rock abrasiveness, quartz content, mineral grain size, joints, bedding, groundwater and the selected cutting sequence.

 

115 t Stable Heavy-Duty Chassis

Hard-rock roadheading produces substantial vibration and reaction forces. Machine weight and chassis rigidity are therefore important for maintaining cutterhead engagement and excavation-profile accuracy.

The EBZ280M-2 has a machine weight of 115 t and uses a wide crawler arrangement with a low center of gravity. This heavy-duty structure helps reduce excessive machine movement and cutterhead bouncing during demanding excavation.

The main frame uses Q460 high-strength structural steel. Wear-prone loading and conveying areas can be reinforced with wear-resistant plates or hardfacing materials to reduce abrasion-related maintenance.

Mechanical collision-protection structures are installed around critical shovel and cutting components to reduce the risk of damage caused by accidental contact underground.

 

Two Independently Operated Bolting Rigs

The EBZ280M-2 is equipped with two bolting rigs arranged symmetrically above the crawler assemblies.

Each rig can be positioned and operated independently. During the bolting stage, two operators can drill in different roof or side-support zones without the rigs mechanically interfering with one another.

The actual bolting rate depends on the bolt pattern, hole depth, rock condition, drill-bit selection, resin or grouting process and operator experience.

The integrated dual-rig arrangement can reduce dependence on a separate bolting machine and improve coordination between excavation and support activities. It should not be represented as simultaneous cutting and bolting unless the equipment configuration and operating procedure specifically permit it.

 

Onboard Temporary Roof Support

After the cutting stage, the onboard temporary-support mechanism can be positioned before operators begin permanent bolt installation.

The system has a listed support height of up to 3.9 m, a support area of approximately 3.4 × 2.1 m and a support strength of 50 kN.

Temporary support helps reduce unsupported roof exposure during the bolting cycle. It does not replace the permanent ground-support system specified in the mine’s geotechnical and roof-control design.

Available temporary-support configurations can be evaluated according to roadway width, roof shape and support requirements.

 

High-Capacity Loading and Conveying

The EBZ280M-2 uses a four-claw star-wheel loading system to collect broken rock from the face and transfer it to the first conveyor.

The loading system provides a rated capacity of up to 300 m³/h, while the double-side-chain scraper conveyor provides a rated conveying capacity of up to 348 m³/h.

A gantry height of approximately 500 mm allows comparatively large pieces of broken rock to pass through the conveying system. This can help reduce material blockage in large-section hard-rock roadway development.

The roadheader-bolter’s loading and conveying capacities should be matched with the downstream belt conveyor, shuttle car or continuous haulage equipment. A high cutting capacity will not produce the expected advance rate if the downstream muck-removal system becomes the production bottleneck.

 

Load-Sensing Hydraulic System

The hydraulic system uses a load-sensitive multi-way valve to distribute flow according to the operating demand of the active mechanism.

This configuration supports controlled movement of the cutter boom, loading system, temporary support and bolting rigs while reducing unnecessary hydraulic losses.

Centralized lubrication points simplify daily servicing of key components. An external hydraulic refueling pump can also reduce the difficulty of adding hydraulic oil in restricted underground spaces.

 

Intelligent Control and Fault Diagnosis

The machine’s control system displays key operating data, including:
